Will Mirador's dispenser system impact my Wi-Fi?
Adding any number of new devices into a Wi-Fi network can have significant impacts on the bandwidth, and with Mirador potentially bringing hundreds of dispensers into an organization it's an understandable concern. Knowing this, we have designed our Mirador Guardianâ„¢ dispensers to be "good neighbors" regarding network usage and needs:
- The worst-case average Wi-Fi bandwidth usage is under 0.012 Mbps for each dispenser. For comparison, someone streaming a YouTube video (2.5Mbps at the low end) will consume more bandwidth than 200 dispensers taken together!
- Most of the dispensers in a facility will likely be in one of two configurations:
- ‘Public Area,' which communicates only when someone dispenses liquid from the unit.
- ‘Patient Room,' which communicates upon a dispense and/or motion detection (when someone enters/exits a room).
- At each communication event we exchange less than 1K bytes.
For optimal performance, we recommend provisioning Mirador Guardianâ„¢ dispensers to IoT network(s) instead of those used for people. This ensures that Mirador is covered under the network settings where your other Wi-Fi connected healthcare devices such as wireless EKGs, infusion pumps, and blood pressure cuffs are established. Dependent upon IT / Security needs, however, your team may have chosen to create a unique SSID and network settings for Mirador to ensure that, however small the potential, the packet data we send had no chance of impact to other devices.
Either option is sufficient for our technical needs, and we work with your IT and Security teams during Implementation to establish the best fit for your organization.
