How do I avoid accidental dispense events?
Sometimes it’s easy to accidentally activate a Guardian™ dispenser, especially if you’re not accustomed to touchless dispensers in your facility. There’s often a transition period when moving away from manual dispensers, and unintentionally setting one off is frustrating. We understand and we’re here to help!
Dispenser activation is triggered by an infrared (IR) motion sensor. Empirical testing places the range of the IR sensor about 4 inches below and around the center-base of the dispenser, in line with CDC recommendations.
Accidental dispense events do register just like intentional dispense events and should be avoided as much as possible so as not to impact your compliance. Steering clear of the “activation zone” is key:
- Ensure that bulky items, like trays or linens, do not sweep into the activation zone. Your hands may be clear of the dispenser, but the items you’re carrying may not be!
- Take an extra step outside of a patient room before turning down the hallway to avoid “clipping corners” and/or accidentally brushing a sleeve through the activation zone(s) of corridor dispensers.
- Use the drip tray as a guide! Anything beyond the depth and width of the drip tray should be clear of the activation zone.
